Fertility Laboratory testing

Gaining Deeper Insight into your Fertility

Through her degree Sarah trained from the Functional Medicine approach to nutrition which is based on the understanding that all the ‘systems’ of the body are inter-related. This includes the digestive, hormonal, detoxification, energy, genetics and immune systems, each one impacting the other. To further enhance her knowledge, Sarah has attended Functional Medicine courses in the USA www.ifm.org.

Where appropriate, functional laboratory testing can offer valuable insight into these areas of health that may be influencing fertility. Rather than relying on assumptions, testing allows us to take a more informed and personalised approach — helping to guide recommendations that are thoughtful, targeted, and relevant to your individual physiology.

Testing is not necessary for everyone, but when used carefully it can provide a deeper understanding of how different aspects of health may be interacting and influencing reproductive wellbeing.

Depending on your history and current circumstances, testing may help identify areas such as:

  • Nutrient deficiencies that may affect energy, hormonal balance, or reproductive health
  • Microbiome imbalances relating to the gut, semen, or uterine environment
  • Adrenal and thyroid hormones
  • Inflammation or oxidative stress that may influence egg or sperm quality or indeed the uterine environment
  • Hormonal patterns that may be affecting cycle regularity or ovulation
  • Digestive or absorption issues that may impact nutrient availability.
Laboratory Testing

Any testing recommended is intended to complement, not replace, investigations carried out through the NHS, IVF clinics, or independent medical providers. Where relevant, results from your existing medical tests can also be reviewed and integrated into your personalised programme, ensuring all aspects of your care are considered together.

When testing is used, results are carefully interpreted and incorporated into your nutritional and lifestyle plan, allowing recommendations to be precise, supportive, and aligned with your fertility goals.
